You may think of happy hair as hair that's doing exactly what you want it to do, and looking exactly how you want it to look whenever you spend time working with it, and you're right to think that way. As a hairstylist, I know I do. But if your hair is difficult at times and lacks moisture, how can you know how to make it happy? How can you know if a product is right for your hair?
Hair speaks, and in most cases, it speaks loudly when it needs to. It will let you know how it's being treated, or if a product is suitable by the way it responds. When using ingredients that works best for your texture, the response will be a noticeable improvement of your hair becoming stronger and healthier.
The purpose of this article is to talk about one of our best-selling products - Silkening Hair Milk (SHM), and to give tips for healthier hair using our product.
When the lack of moisture is a problem, Silkening Hair Milk is awesome for all hair types. No ingredient in it will upset your scalp or hair, unless an allergy exists. The universal hair care product is designed to nourish hair to the fullest and have the ability to hydrate even the thirstiest head of hair. With moisturizing properties like aloe vera and organic flaxseed combined, it will have your hair saying, yeeessss, thank you!
Silkening Hair Milk feeds follicles, promotes growth and shine, and smooths cuticles to reduce detangling and shedding. With that being said, again, the product is a big deal. For that reason, we must give it the credit due, and encourage you to include it into your hair care routine. Another benefit of using SHM is that it's not greasy nor does it leave build-up as the lightweight formula absorbs into the hair strands.
Why Hair Milk? The scent is great, and simply put, Silkening Hair Milk does your hair good!
Eight Tips for using SHM (or Hydra Max from the Boys and Men collection):
1. Dry, coarse hair that's shedding (due to a moisture issue) should use SHM daily until the moisture retention level changes and hair begins improving.
2. Make sure no sections are missed, part hair in sections, if needed; and use a comb or fingers to distribute thoroughly.
3. For the wet-n-go stylers, using SHM daily, or as often as needed, means you get to maximize the moisturizing benefits. But remember too much of anything isn't good, (See tip 7).
4. After shampooing and conditioning, give hair an extra boost of moisture: Coat all strands or locs with the SHM and cover hair for at least 30 minutes for intense hydration. Since a lot of the SHM will be used, you may need to rinse it out depending on your hairstyle.
5. Use SHM when detangling and incorporate patience. Hair cannot be happy if it's being treated roughly.
6. Do not use SHM on flat iron/ silk press hairstyles as it will revert hair back to its natural state.
7. Since SHM has moisturizing abilities to soften hair, and soft hair is more delicate, include a protein treatment into your hair care routine as often as needed depending on your hair, but at least once a month to help strengthen it. Unfortunately, I don't have a protein product on the market to recommend. But for those who care for their own hair, I can recommend the old school egg-or mayo-in-your-conditioner method. I've found this treatment to be less harsh and more conditioning for my hair compared to some of the well-known brands. Just make sure to use lukewarm to cool water when rinsing out, if an egg is used, to prevent it from scrambling.
8. For maintaining or attaining juicier hair you'll need to make sure you're consistent with giving your hair the TLC it wants and needs. For every great outcome, a sacrifice was made.
Not only do I wish you happy new hair, but also a happy new year! I really hope this year is amazing for you and that you will remember Ecclesiastes 3:11, "He has made everything beautiful in its time."
I'll be chatting with you in the Spring. Until then, take care!
